A1 - Yes, you can set it from Auto, Low, or Off in the Expert Mode of Picture adjustment screen. A2 - I found it did it auto but, it can be turn on from the ratio button or settings. I tried it on Turner Classic movies and the bars were there on the sides with no change on top and bottom.
