Short Answer: An SSD is a type of Hard Drive and a portable hard drive is one of many ways to connect a hard drive. Detailed answer: A portable hard drive is simply an external hard drive that is powered through the USB cable that you use to connect to your computer. A portable hard drive typically uses a standard Laptop hard drive for storage. These hard drives are smaller than the ones you'll find in desktop computers and are typically slower. They don't usually require an external power supply and are powered off of the USB connection to your computer. A Solid State Drive is the newest form of Hard Disks for computers. SSD hard drives use the same type of memory you'd find in your typical usb flash drive except much faster. Most hard drives still use a rapidly-spinning platter to store data but with an SSD there are no moving pars so they are able to read and write data magnitudes faster.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A solid state drive is almost like a flash drive with solid state memory (just like your computer RAM) inside which is extremely fast and easier to carry. Most Portable hard drives nowadays have older conventional hard drives in them, which have revolving disks inside (hence moving parts) and much slow and volatile performance than Solid state drives and flash drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Solid state hard drives are extremely fast and have an interface of a SATA port usually. The external or portable hard drives have a mini USB connector so that you can connect to multiple computers easily without having to take them apart to get to a SATA connector.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A standard hard drive utilizes one or more magnetic spinning disks to store data and a read-write head that moves across the disk(s) to access the data. Looks like an ultra-modern version of an old vinyl phonograph and needle. It requires a motor to spin the disks and a mechanical arm to move the read-write head. A solid state drive stores data within it's circuitry. There are no moving parts. A portable drive is a hard drive or solid state drive that can be carried around separate from the PC, laptop, etc. that can be attached via cable to almost any PC, laptop, or device.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.your question is in Error - SSD means solid state - no moving parts - you can have that TYPE of drive in a portable or in your lap top or home computer.
