This is an internal SSD normally installed in a laptop or desktop. BUT, if you go to Best Buy or one of the good computer supply places you can buy an external laptop hard drive case for $15-20 and make it into an external hard drive. You will like it better if you have USB3 and buy a USB3 case and cable for the drive.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's just an SSD. You could, if you want it marked as a removable drive. You will have to format it, and create a volume first. Here's a 500G on an Apricot Dongle: DISKPART> assign DiskPart successfully assigned the drive letter or mount point. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, it can be used externally if you have the USB adapter to connect it to the drive and the computer. The adapter is about $30. If you want to use it externally all of the time you might choose a different drive for that purpose since the connection slot is open because it's intended for use inside the computer. I used the drive externally via usb to make a copy of a current harddrive before I swapped it for the solid state drive in my MacBook.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Of course. Use a SATA 3 external enclosure for the best speed
