It really depends on the mac book pro you are using. If it is from before the MBP Retina, then you should be fine. The newer MBP with Retina don't use a SATA connection any longer, they are using a proprietary mpcie connector.

I performed a backup of the old HDD with my Time Capsule, then swapped out the HDD for the SSD, reformatted the new SSD, then restored it with the backup. Replacing the HDD with the SSD took 5 minutes. The restoring of the files to 3 hours. AWESOME performance...heat gone, spinning HDD gone, battery life extended...wow, should have done this a long time ago!
