• no you dont need a smart player if your tv is smart. But depending on the player, the hardware in the player might be faster than the TV and thus react and operate faster and smoother. But no you dont need a smart player.

• No, you don't need it on both. Either one will give you access to other online features, which is usually about the same stuff on both. No need to have it on either one, but it's ok to be on both, or just one.

• One don't need a smart Blue-Ray player if one has a smart TV unless one plan to stream music only.

• I would say that you don't, but most 4K upconverting blue ray players include the smart menu.
