You can use a basic player with a smart TV. Most players are Smart (ie. can connect to the internet)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends! Some "smart tv's" do not play as many formats from clouds and such (mkv...etc) that you may have on a home device like your computer or wdmycloud etc, so it may be that the player can play those when the TV does not. Samsung TV's are dismal in the format support category, so if you do research, you may find the player is much better with decoding those. If all you want is to watch Netflix or similar apps, you only need one or the other to be "smart". The price is not a big diff, so why not go with a smart one?

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not at all.... usually these "smart" appliances mean that they carry certain built-in apps such as YouTube, Hulu, etc. So if your TV is "smart" all you need is a simple Blu ray player... but in the market nowadays must of these appliances come "smart" anyways.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe that you need a smart player as well.
