“Can you change the filter without shutting off the water supply to the refrigerator? The manual says to shut it off, but I haven't had to do this with other brands.”

sure. there's a valve seal that keeps the water from spitting out when you pull the filter. it should do it automatically. if not, pull the seal down before removing filter and it should block any water from leaking out while you switch filters good luck
