You are correct -- it does 'not' Samsung forgot to program this I guess. I just set my screen time out so that it will shut off. Still very happy with both the keyboard case and my Samsung Tab s5e - it is awesome - best droid tablet to date hands down.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I know its inconvenient that it should but hey. As long as you have a keyboard and it covers the screen. That's all that matters right. I have gotten use to turning it off then closing it or have the screen time at like 30sec or 2 minutes.

Covers for iPads that cost less than ten dollars do this function. It’s actually pretty typical Samsung, slick looking and sounding hardware till you dig a little deeper. Their support is often poor as well. I have returned mine, tablet and cover both as there were several other issues and for the money I could not justify the compromises! I will likely update my 2017 iPad instead and there’s no rush as it works fine for me right now. I was hoping to move tablet to android to match my phone however the Samsung “phone” app on the S5e only works if you have a brand new galaxys10 and apparently only with some cell providers! It was another feature I was looking forward to that does not work with my Samsung 18 month old cell phone! Even my Windows 10 computer does the “phone” app better as all my texts show up on my computer flawlessly when it’s turned on and on the wifi my phone is on. I don’t know why Samsung is so poor at the programming stuff. Android updates are pretty slow to come thru too although that involves your cell provider as well I think?

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine doesn't either but I don't remember reading that it would. I alternate cases, I have one that shuts off and turns it on, slim, for general use. If I need to get work done, I use this keyboard and turn my tablet off manually.

It states that this feature only works if you are not using a secure screen lock type, or if smart lock is currently keeping your tablet unlocked. For this feature to work, you must turn off the lock screen feature.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes I read the user manual! My point is the Best Buy original add had the close to turn off function listed on the add! Yes it’s a great Android tablet over all. It misses the mark for me on several points so it was returned. The slim form factor and gorgeous screen are high points for me. I ended up with the iPad Air 2019 with the Apple pencil which I am very pleased with.
