You likely inserted the SD card incorrectly (like I did the first time). Take your time. make sure the phone is off. It slides right next to the phone's SIM Card that says, the carrier's name on it.

Have you taken the back off your phone to see if it does have a sims card, otherwise resetting factory settings may solve the problem
