You can already use Google play but have to switch to switch typo developor channel. Very easy to so in settings. I have been using it with no problems. Stable channel support due by the end of the year
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Google for how to set a Chromebook to the beta channel for updates and you receive access to the Google Playstore. The Android apps in the Playstore are NOT designed for Chromebooks so I have not found any worth using. The Chrome web store has apps/extensions designed to work well on Chromebooks. The Chrome extension for Microsoft Word is totally free. The Playstore version requires paying to edit or store a document.
