What is "upgrade"? null

I upgraded my parent's phones from the Galaxy A10e to this Galaxy A51

Being a Verizon consumer, i have been with them for many years and it has been many years since i got a new phone. So every few years they give you incentive to purchase a new phone and give you a discount to get a better and newer phone. This is classified as an "upgrade" because i am getting a new and better phone. I assume that if you are with any cell phone service for several years they too would offer you an upgrade to a newer phone. My Galaxy A 51 was discounted $100 each, and the activation was discounted 50% as well. I purchased two phones as my wife and i are on a Senior shared plan, and both were discounted.
