I've seen adds for Muse laptop sleeves that have crazy drop protection. In the ad they take an aluminum body MacBook Pro, stick it in the sleeve and throw it up in the air and watch it drop. It maybe a gimic, but it would be worth looking into. I think they say the sleeve is rated at 20 or 30 feet of drop protection.
