• Most USB drives are powered through the USB cable and wouldn't work since this cable is data only. An external USB drive might work if it's independently powered by it's own AC power converter, the proverbial wall wart.

• Yes, should work fine. If the drive is powered with an AC plugin. This USB connector does not provide power, only data, so a USB drive that is powered by the USB cable won't work.

• Depending on how large the external hard drive is. Usually ur okay up to 500GB. But the larger TB the drives r different.
