Yes you can upgrade after only 12 months this is valued an early upgrade. Your old device had to be in good cosmetic and working condition and you have to turn the old device back in if you have a balance due on that old device

With Verizon you get the phone price split into 24 billing cycles. You can upgrade anytime as long as the phone is played off...ie 24 months.
