You have to pay Best Buy the tax up front for the full amount of the cost of the phone (around $50). Then your monthly payments towards the phone itself will begin to appear on your Verizon Bill.

I did not have a contract before this purchase but since the cost of the phone is being spread out (no interest) over two years I will keep it for this time period. Where I live, Verizon is the only signal you can get, so I would stay with Verizon anyway.
