We just purchased this unlocked version; both of our current unlocked phones were originally ATT models that have been carrier unlocked. The service provider would not provide insurance to our knowledge as we had to go with the Geeksquad plan again. They did not offer the month-to-month payments like they had in the past, instead we paid out right for the additional 2 years of coverage ($164.79) and still have a deductible to pay before the service can be used each time. Why? Because it is not a carrier branded phone, the option to purchase a GS Plan month-to-month is not allowed as it was explained to us when we did our research with them because we can put any sim into the phone and just jump carriers at anytime. Simply put, lack of control on where the phone goes or where it's used US/Overseas. There is no activation fee as the phone is unlocked, designed for you to just drop your sim and additional memory to it, and just start using it. It was that easy for us as we're T-Mobile customers. For others, it may be a different experience of making contact with the Mobile Service Provider and providing IEMI and any other details needed to get the phone added to the network. Not easily done if you're on/under contract; easier if not stuck in a contract. The unlocked version has 3 color options: (1) Black, (2) Silver, or (3) Gold...my wife has the Gold model.
