I'm not an expert on this, but last year I got roughly the same deal on a Pixel and when you're billed by Verizon it actually bills you for the full original payment amount then credits you back half of the amount to make it the discounted price. It was very annoying the first few months when I called every time I got my bill and no one could explain it to me properly, finally I got a manager after my 4th phone call. I imagine the same thing is happening with this, hence the retail price of $756.
