“Does this tablet have the problem where even if you get an sd card, it still takes up space on the internal storage. I'm asking because my two past tablets have had that problem where the sd card doesn't even help.”

No it has plenty of internal memory to play several apps. Placing an sd card will allow it to have more memory for games, apps or anything else
