Reading e-books? Would this tablet work well for e-reading and watching movies, or would the Samsung Galaxy S be better in terms of speed and quality?

E-reading, absolutely most any tablet will do for that for sure.
Watching movies is no problem for this tablet either. HOWEVER, if you're looking for a viewing experience much like you would expect from a nice Samsung HDTV This is NOT that tablet. Two reasons, the aspect ratio of this tablet is 4:3 much like an old Tube TV while all televisions made today are HD 16:9 ratio. Second the screen resolution on this tablet, tho fine for casual watching, an avid movie watcher may see this as sub par.

so, If you're looking for a good tablet for reading and productivity I would recommend this tablet. The aspect ratio is more true to paper and with Office mobile Preloaded this guy shines.

If youre looking to have a mini HDTV in your hands go for the Tab S. Its lightweight, power packed, and the display is INCREDIBLE!

All the galaxy tablets have apps that will do what you want.

Television and movies, there is netflix and if you have xfinity, they have an app called TV 2 Go. I don't know if Amazon Prime is still based on flash, android tablets (and ipad for the matter) do not support flash. You can stream movies per view on YouTube red or purchase it from Google Play.

Google Play has ebooks you can read in their app, some are free, others you can purchase. You can download the Kindle app to read Amazon ebooks or the nook app to read Barnes and Noble content or stream movies.

There are several excellent apps to read pdf content and the Kindle app will also do.

As for the Tab S, I have one but they cost twice as much if not more than the Tab A or the Tab 4.

Both are good for reading and seem to stream tambour the same but tab style picture is slightly crisper

I would definitely look in to a Samsung Galaxy tab s 2 it's a high end tablet with an amazing screen. The galaxy tab A is more for an affordable price and the specs are low. Trust me I have both of the Tablets but for movies I use my Galaxy tab pro 12.2 it looks nice an clear.
