• i think it would be ideal for that. there aer NO moving parts (not even a fan) in this, making it lightweight; I use it as a reader, and can hold it for about 1 hour, comfortably (switching arms) while reading). but it is also full blown windows, can add microsoft office, etc, to it.

• Yes it would be ideal for a college student. It is very light weight and thin, so you can easily carry in a backpack without really adding weight to your load. And the touch screen makes editing those papers even easier.
