• If you want to use it as you phone so you font have to carry your phone with you. Other wise I use it with the Bluetooth.

• No, it doesnt need a plan, it connects to your phone via blue tooth. It has a decent range to stay connected. I have never had a problem with leaving my phone in the golf cart and walking to my ball, even on cart path only holes.
