• When you bring your wrist up the display turns on. You can adjust the brightness from your wrist. I keep it on 5-6 but you can increase it to 11 for "outdoor mode"

• If you pair it with your phone, you can opt for continuous display on the gear. Because I also wear a watch, I do not have it on That would also use battery time. I put it on power saver at night and then regular color during the day. I can view it very well in daylight.

• unfortunately not very visible in sunlight and yes i do have to tap my watch for my display to light up.
