The Samsung 14" Geek Squad Certified Refurbished Laptop 3rd Generation i5, 8GB Mem, 750GB HD. Can you confirm what WiFi Adapter and driver is being used? There have been numerous reported issues with that WiFi Card that the laptop originally came with. Thank you!”

I just received this laptop in the mail and I can confirm that there is a problem with the WiFi. Every few minutes it would lose connectivity and then actually crash the computer and restart when I would try to re-establish connection. After plugging in an ethernet cable, I was able to fix it by updating the driver and downloading the Intel wireless management software. So far it has not happened again. After that problem is solved, it seems like a decent laptop.

Interestingly, the employee who processed my exchange did not ask what was wrong with it. I volunteered that it was a well-documented wifi issue. I did not see him write that down. It may be that he would have asked eventually if I hadn't brought it up. It may also be that he typed it in, and I didn't realize that's what he was doing. Or maybe he put a post-it on once he took it in the back. On the other hand, maybe these 'refurbished' units are not getting fixed because the word is not getting to the squad what the problem is. In any case, to (sort of) answer your question, I do not know whether they still use the 6235 wifi card, I don't know what driver is being used, although updating my driver did not help. I can say that the problem is not getting fixed, at least not on all of them.

I bought two of these (for graduates.) One is having the wifi issues, one isn't. The good news is that there are all kinds of folks having this issue and posting helpful and friendly suggestions on this problem. The bad news is that there are all kinds of folks having this issue. "Geek Squad Recertified" most definitely does not mean they have fixed this issue.
