If you have a 5.25" drive in there, you may need to buy a mounting bracket to put this drive into before you install it into your PC. Most modern PC's also tend to have vacant slots available in them for these drives that you can use.

You can either leave it 'floating' without risking any real damage, or perhaps your case has mounting points/brackets available that you can use. There are also 3.5" to 2.5" adapter trays available to mount is in a standard drive bay.
