A:Answer No, the device has its own memory and will update the phone apps when it is within range. However, the phone has to be in range to receive notifications, or answer, make phone calls,etc. That being said, the Bluetooth range on this device is excellent. I was in range anywhere within my apartment of 900+ square feet.
