The rear speakers can be wall mounted. Atmos performance will depend on a number of things including room size, height to the ceiling, type of ceiling and so on. As the system uses top-mounted drivers on the soundbar and the rear speakers for Atmos keeping everything relatively in-line helps the overall sound output.

I would suggest to give plenty of height between the rears and the ceiling as the point of the top firing speakers is to bounce the sound off the ceiling and back to you. ~Samsung Solutions
