Yes it can be used on a sliding door. The two surfaces don't need to touch, just come close to each other to be activated.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sure. THe unit has two pieces - the 1st part is a switch that is controlled with a magnete and the other part is a magnete. Each piece has a sticky foam tape on the back. Just affix it to the part of the door that moves and the other part to where the switch will be located when the door is closed. THe door closes the magnet engages and the sensor registers as closed. Pull the door back (away from the magnet) and the door registers as opened.

I have one on a sliding patio door works great To install close it all the way right and put either the little side on the frame or the bigger side and then get the opposite part on the door part as close as you can. Watch the app and make sure it updates status
