SmartThings Sensor

Sensor was easy to install although the magnet part (the smaller of the two parts) was too thick for my application. This led me to improvise a solution. No fault of the product it was just where I wanted to install the sensor was on a door with a very 1" thick door trim. To resolve issue I replaced the included magnet with a thin magnet strip purchased at a local craft store. The sensor still is operational with the replaced magnet. For installation the sensor is mounted by peeling the paper off the adhesive tape and mounting to the surface of the door. Configuration of the sensor to work with the SmartThings hub was quick and easy. The sensor is in stalled on a door that is used frequently. After about a month the battery life is reported to be 75%. Battery life may become an issue as I was expecting to get 1 to 2 years from the battery before replacing it. The sensor is truly multipurpose because in addition to detecting open/close conditions it also reports on temperature and acceleration.

Got several of these to monitor the external doors in my house. They work as expected, have a great range on the magnet and are easy to install. With the smarttthings hub I am able to get details on whether doors are open or closed, if vibration is detected, and temperature. Great product!

This device is a magnetic contact to detect a door or window opening, and it includes vibration detection alert and temperature. The range is great, wonderful quality, and functions flawlessly. I have several.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

We currently only use 2 of these but plan on adding more to our system later on. One is used on our sliding glass door that leads to our backyard. We have it set up to give a push notification to our phones when the door is opened/closed. The other one we use on our daughters' window that they used to always love leaving open. Instead of a push notification on phone, we have it set up to text us when opened. So far both have worked flawlessly. These sensors also record temperature and detect vibrations along with battery life, you can set custom triggers/actions to them. I have heard of people using them on dog food storage bins to keep track if the dogs were fed, endless possibilities.

So I installed these on my sliding doors to work with my SmartThings hub and ecobee. I got them so that if my roommate opens the and leaves door open longer than five minutes the house AC will shut off. The setup was super easy using the SmartThings app on my iPad I just pointed camera at QR code to pair. After I did so I realized the QR code is on back and packaging so might be worth saving if you ever need to repair etc... My door was uneven as most slider frames to door would be and I mounted with about a pencil widths of space and still work just fine.

Excellent sensor compared to other sensors you can buy for the smartthings ecosystem. This one has a great distance for the magnet to actually trigger as closed so it works well with doors that have big frames. The temperature sensor and knocking sensor are great. I've been able to trigger automations when people knock on the door and also based on temperature from the same sensor. I'd recommend this one over other ones since its reliable and seems to be well made.

I have 5 of these sensors now, 3 on exterior doors and 2 on garage doors. They function as tilt sensors as well as open/close contacts, they detect vibration using an accelerometer so they show acceleration active/inactive, and show temperature too. With smartthings I have the exterior doors set up to detect knocks on the door and the garage doors now trigger the ceiling lights in the garage. Same price as Amazon and available in stores, couldn't ask for more from Best Buy!!

A Necessity for any sized Smart Home

Look past the price of this sensor and just buy it. One for every door and window in the house. Pair it with Phillips Hue and your Nest, Ecobee or other Smart Thermostat and transform your home into a fully automated smartHome with automatic lights, fine tuned control over temperature and voice prompts with voice control.
At first glance it appears to just notify SmartThings that a door/Window is open, however that is just the tip of the iceberg. It can monitor open/close state, vibration, pitch and yaw and temperature. Left the front door open and the A/C on? Get an alert on your phone and the A/C automatically shuts down. Bedroom to Hot and Living room to cold? Link it to your thermostat to set temperature to a whole home average. Tired of fumbling around in the Dark. Create automatic lights that switch on after sunset when a door is opened and off again once it closes. Attach one to your washing machine and quickly know if your load is off balance. Attach one to the lid of your mailbox for mail delivery notifications. Or stick to a gate as a knock sensor and know when Fido wants to come in or go out or if the kids are sneaking out the back gate. 1 sensor with endless possibilities.
The fact that this sensor does so much however is probably its biggest downfall as some programming will be required. While SmartThings has a very active and helpful user community getting your hub set up and tailored to your house and unique needs can Leave holes in drywall from repeated impact from fist and foreheads. Take a deep breath, walk outside, pet the dog, walk back in, and start from the top. It works if you work it.

Temperature sensor, Open/Close sensor and a tilt sensor (for use on a garage door). Smart things can report Open/Closed state along with the temperature where the sensor is placed. I use two for the garage doors and one for the mailbox. I can know the outside temp from the mailbox and contrast that to the temp in the garage. Very handy and very easy to set up.

I have these all over the house in applications ranging from the garage doors to window contact sensors; they work great! Only downside would be that they consume batteries quite quickly and often times they will stop functioning well before the battery % hits 0.
Either way I still highly enjoy these and recommend them.

Works for multiple things, i have one in my mailbox, and just the sensor, not the magnetic part, u can use them in otherways, like i use it for vibrartion with acelometer on my mail box, works great to tell me when mail comes. Also on most of my doors i use the temp monitor besides just if the door is opened or closed. Connected to my thermostat.

Easy to attach to smartthings hub. Placing sensor on flat door/window surfaces that align is easy, but when they don't a little creativity is required. Range between sensor and hub is impressive. I would have never imagined that the downstairs sensor would ever link with the upstairs smartthings hub, but it does and has without a problem.

We use ours to remind us when we forget and leave the garage door up at night. It's nice that the smaller part of the sensor (the magnet) doesn't have to be in firm contact with the base in order to be detected. I attached the magnet part to the garage door and the rest of it to the door frame with about a 1/4 inch gap between the two parts when the door is closed. You can also rotate the magnet on the long axis and it still works (had to rotate it 90 degree to attach it to the side of the garage door). It detects the door position with ease. Automation set up was easy: At 9:00 PM, if the Garage Door is Open, send alert message "Garage door is open!"
Before we used it in the garage, I used it in the house to monitor the status of our furnace when it was acting up. Automation: If Temperature <= 62 degrees, send alert message "House temp alert!"
Battery life it good, probably go through two batteries a year. We'll see how it reacts to the cold in the garage this Winter.

Work very well. Easy to set up. Love they do motion, temperature, and door close,
They also show how much battery power left. Do on occassion disconnect from base unit, but could be my location of the base unit. Even when it has show disconnected it would still let me know there was a warning. Like how small it is. The curved edges make it more difficult if you have to route out some of door molding for positioning.

I use these on my doors, windows, garage door, and washer and dryer, are really nice and cant justify buying new ones just for smart control. I use these sensors as vibration sensors to get alert when load of clothes are done. along being linked to my sonos speakers, I get custom notifications.

This new sensor looks great. It does all the same stuff the first generation one did. I believe the range between base and magnet allows for a little more space if you have a large gap in your door frame. And the best part, they are cheaper than the previous model so I can afford more sensors!!
