External / portable mechanical drives tend to be extremely dissapointing performance wise and are extremely fragile. This thing is fast as lightning and very robust as well. Large mechanical drives have a place in your home base PC where they are less susceptible to damage from drops or power down, etc.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I struggled with the same decision for the same reason. However, I decided to make the leap away from spinning hard disc drives after starting with a WD portable hard drive, having it die, then moving to a Toshiba and finally a Seagate drive. All three lasted about 3-4 years before dying on me. I've decided to move to this SSD and while it is smaller in capacity for the money, it is screaming fast by comparison to any of the three previous drives mentioned. However, I've only had it for a few months so I cannot yet comment on it's longevity. I have high hopes though!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would think that much depends on what you are saving. I use my ssd for photoshop use because it is so fast, and very small/light. I use the big drives for regular storage and backups just to be safe.
