“The black rubber flap does not stay behind the kick plate. The flap falls out after the opening and closing of the door. Can this piece be removed? It is getting annoying as it does not stay behind the kick plate.”

If the flap is touching the floor and being buckled, fold it under toward the back of the machine. The kick plate is vertically adjustable. Position it and tighten the two mounting screws so that the plate is held tightly against the floor. No way should the flap come into view. Don't remove it. It's purpose is to help quiet the machine.
