“Could this be utilized in other places besides a basement floor? I was thinking of putting this under sinks throughout the house in the event of a leak. I was also considering putting this behind my washing machine in the event the drain got disconnected.”

It can be placed anywhere water could leak. But beware, mine disconnected from the hub freqently.
