Regular is fine. You are just controlling the power. Lamp switch would stay on and you turn the power on and off.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No need for smart bulbs. This device turns on/off the power to the entire appliance/lamp. So, if you are wanting the ability to dim a light, as well as turn it on and off, you would want to use a smart bulb instead of this device. Note - I purchased this device because I already had a Samsung smart hub. I am not sure whether or not you will need the smart hub to control this, but you should check in to it before buying.
