“I installed this dishwasher myself and found that it sticks out from my countertop by 1 1/2”. There were four wooden pieces included in the box. The instructions didn’t mention them, and this seems obvious, but are they included to cover the gap?”

You do not need those pieces, maybe the hoses are stuck behind the machine. I pulled them as I push the washer in.
