I don't know why Samsung chose not to include a power indicator light. I do not find this to be an issue. I use it with a Samsung LED TV and when I turn on the blu ray player, the TV turns on automatically and switches to the HDMI port the blu ray player is connected to. When I shut the TV off or use the sleep timer to shut the TV off, this blu ray player shuts off automatically.
