If you are purchasing UHD 4K discs, your old Blu-ray players will not play those. If you purchase a modern UHD 4K player, it should play all versions of DVD and Blu-ray discs which are compatible to your region. This model is not region free without adjustment which may or may not invalidate your warranty.
