Yes, this play CD's. No, the streaming feature does not work with an iPod or MP3.

There are no speakers in the DVD player and since CD's are digital the sound quality is only as good as the speakers in the TV or attached to the Receiver and whatever EQ/sound mode settings within those devices. I could not find a way to connect my iPod Nano to the player. There is a mobile device "Screen Sharing" feature in the "Connection Guide" sub menu of "Source" setting on the "Home" menu. (Home Button>Source>Connection Guide) This seems to be geared toward phones/tablets, I haven't explored this yet so I can't say how it works for sure. Streaming applies to audio/video content from an internet connection via the Apps in the DVD player.
