Both are great players and have tons of apps. The 9500 (2017 model) will recognize HDR UHD disks on its own. However, it will not play 3D bluray. The 8500 (2016 model) doesn't autocorrect for format, however it WILL play 3D Bluray movies.

Includes basic led display on front of player, a USB 3.0 input on the right side of unit, and 2 way Bluetooth for private listening on Bluetooth headphones, and for connection to other devices. Also supports 4K playback on U tube and Netflix streaming apps, plus several other streaming apps available.
