I have the same model and after some research my panel is a 10 bit and thus will benefit from this upgade to full HDR capability even though it is a 2014 model. Simply research which models are 8 and 10 bit then by looking at the back of your HDTV, you can identify which panel you have accordingly to see if it will be fruitful to purchase this product. Hope this is helpful.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Samsung has said with the SEK-3500 that owners of the HU8550 and HU9000 will have HDR support.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine has 10 bit yours has ten bit as well I have the UN55HU8550FXZA and yes it has it all 1000 nit HDR and full compatability to uhd standards mine works good
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am adding this in response to those who are incorrectly stating that all Samsung 4k models before 2015 were 8 bit models this is indeed incorrect. My 2014 model is 10 bit panel, they made both 8 and 10 bit panels and it can be distinguished by model number. I am able to get full HDR with my 10 bit panel and it is glorious!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. At the end of the day, what you seek from HDR is a picture quality improvement. Will you get the most HDR could theoretically offer? Maybe not. Will you see an improvement? My experience and the other reviews I've seen say you most likely will see a very noticeable improvement. Evidence suggests the benefit is possible whether your panel is 8b or 10b, and as far as I've read, hu8550s come with both types. If you do a thorough search, you'll find ways to determine which kind of panel you have. If money isn't a consideration, you can probably get better HDR with the new models about to show up, but you may have to give up 3d, if you care.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The later models are 10 bit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.U do have a 10 bit panel mine a 55 inch 8550FXZA and yes it gives u hdr with both xbox one s and ps4 pro
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.it is my understanding that all screens before 2015 were 8 bit panels! In 2015 was the first 10 bit panels. It is my understanding that Sek-3500U supports HDR but as with the 8 bit panel that does not show the full larger color pallet the 8 bit panel will be helped by the SEK-3500U HDR as with the color pallet will also be helped but because it is a 8 bit panel it will not be the same as a 10 bit panel! It is supposed to help! There other things that are supposed be in the SEK-3500U like an 8 core processer where your TV comes with a 4 core processer. You are to get a different operating system! From what I have read there are pluses and negatives to the use of SEK-3500U like some 4k movie providers that work before the update to SEK-3500U that work do not work after but then others do work that did not work before! It all depends on what you what or need! I have been having problem with the SEK-3500U that I have just gotten. Samsung is telling me I have a problem with the SEK-3500U or with my 75 inch 2014 8550f 4K TV. I am having a Tec. coming out this week to check out both! I would suggest that you do more research on this subject on internet or if all fails talk to Samsung! They did make both and they should be able to help you! I believe what I have told you is true but I am like you and have be asking question also and have found some answers. Maybe it is that I have just been doing it longer! So, what I am saying is I believe what I have told you to be true but I could be wrong on somethings! I know that this may not help you much but it may give you a starting point to start looking for information on your own! Still I believe that what I have told you to be true! Still Samsung should be the place to go to get what you need to know! Not much help but take what you want and use it when you call Samsung so you have some Idea what to ask and to have some information or understanding on the subject when you call Samsung! That is the best I can help you with! Not much better than nothing and a starting point to work from.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not sure if you will get true HDR but maybe some form of it. Kind of like the Sharp Q+ line of TV's that had 1080p panels but could display 4k content. Reports from users are better blacks and contrast and colors seem to pop more. If you open up the M-Go app it now has movies available in 4k with HDR and it says in the movie info that you need the SEK-3500U/ZA to view it. So does that mean that the SEK-3500 turns your 8550 into a HDR capable TV or just that you can now view HDR but doesn't add the benefits of true HDR? Like the Sharp Q+ example I gave you earlier. I have an 8550 also in 75" size and am wondering myself. I read page after page in the SEK-3500U/ZA forums and there still is no definitive answer. Some say yes, some say not so much. Hope this helps your question to some degree. Just buy it, try it and if it doesn't seem to blow you away in picture enhancements, then you have to decide if it's worth $400 for the latest 4k standards and 4k streaming codecs and Tizen operating system. I'ts also upgradable to HDMI 2.0a through firmware.
