I bought a 2014 Samsung 78" SUHD TV last year and when I saw this update evo box I read enough reviews to convince me to spend the money. I love the box, but don't get me wrong, ever since I bought the box, I've been having issues with my apps on my TV plus the fact that the new remote isn't as nice in my opinion. I do not notice any change in picture quality and it's a bummer that there's features that don't even work with my one year old TV. The question is would I recommend this box. Yes and no. Yes if you have the extra cash because it's definitely not something cheap, but all the latest and greatest updates are going to be released on this newest box of course so it'll eventually become necessary to buy. No I do not think its an absolute must at this point unless you want the latest and greatest. I was completely happy and content with my older box and to be honest, I didn't have any issues with my old box like I do with this one. So overall, I would wait if I could go back and do it all over. Hope that helps you guys out.

This is Samsung's third UHD Evolution One Connect kit, and three is a charm. My 55F9000 had the original SEK1500U, and while the picture quality was already great, it can only do 4K at 30Hz and had no access to 4K YouTube, Netflix, or Amazon Prime Streaming. All of the aforementioned require newer codecs, along with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, as will 4K Blu Ray. Basically, your Samsung 4K TV isn't a true 4K tv until you upgrade to this box.
At $400, it's very expensive, but a lot cheaper than buying a new TV. So a did a ton a research and read that the upgrades were easily worth the price of admission. In addition to adding 4K Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, UltraFlix, etc. it also adds a much faster octacore (8) processor, Tizen OS, and gives you 4 full 4K 60Hz inputs. Not a lot of TVs can do that. You also get 4K 60Hz with full 4:4:4 chroma for high end PCs.
Did I mention that that picture quality is drastically improved. A good 1080p source will look near 4K quality. I've tested Netflix, Blu Ray, Xbox One, PS4, HD Cable, Wii U, and various other sources. Everything looked much. Better when compared to the original box. No regrets here.

Better picture quality. However, new operating system looses some apps and is more difficult in some ways. New remote leaves a lot to be desired with less buttons and loss of feel of the buttons. Installation was no problem. Ability to get UHD with HDR with a Vidity enabled hard drive (Western Digital WD My Passport Cinema 1TB) produces the best videos I have ever seen.

The evolution kit was easy to install. My Samsung UH6550 had a great picture to begin with, but it is even more stunning now. The blacks are blacker and truer, and the rest of the color spectrum seems more dynamic. This box allows true 4k streaming from Youtube now. The only negative is the new remote control. It. Can be programmed as a universal remote, but the instructions are unclear and Samsung telephone support is less than useless. I finally figured it out on my own.

By itself, my TV was amazingly good, so much that I didn't feel a strong need for improvement. But all the press news suggests this will probably be the only/last chance for this type of upgrade. So I went for it. Unfortunately my first one had wifi problems. The second one has been fine, and thanks to BB for being cooperative about the replacement!
I'm only giving 4 stars because there are significant firmware glitches that should have been avoidable. But there is definitely a picture quality improvement and the 3d seems much more refined. That's what this is all about, so it's a success. If you've got a TV that's more than a year old, I'd think the benefits would be even more significant, including connectivity you didn't have before.

To start, I have a Samsung UN50HU8550 2014 model TV.
I had to buy 2 of these. The first one was a defect. Cause my tv to lose Bluetooth and internet. The included remote wouldn't even function with or without the box except to power the tv on and off. Returned and got a second one and WOW. Big difference in PQ. You get HDR which you can test just by grabbing a couple movie clips off the internet. This will also allow PS4 to output in HDR, Xbox one S and PS4 Pro to out put in 2160p HDR. I tested and let me just say before the kit, HDR videos look completely washed out but after they look stunning. You have to see to believe. You also get Netflix HDR, and YouTube 4k. Upgraded ports to HDMI 2.0a, HDCP 2.2. Another plus is having all connections go straight into the kit rather than the panel. It really makes everything neater and more organized. Additionally, I actually like the new remote more than the stock egg remote. I highly recommend this if you have a compatible model tv because if you get a 4k blu ray player and try to connect without this, it will only output in 1080p. You need the HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 so this way you don't have to spring for a whole new tv.

Easy set up. Made picture look clear and the colors more vivid. Only problem is Samsung has a lousy tech support if you need them. If you have a problem with your tv after you install this box upgrade they will tell you it's an accessory item and not warrant any issues.

I was hesitant to purchase based on some of the reviews that are posted. I figured that I would order and simply return if after I connected to my 65HU8550 TV that the difference was negligible. I followed the instructions and made sure the TV was upgraded to the latest firmware before installation. Installation was a breeze and everything worked immediately when connected. The only disappointment from the setup is that my custom color calibrations did not transfer. Please note that this review only applies to picture quality as I use an external streaming device for any video streaming; I have not used the updated SmartHub features.
Let's just get to it: I am a discerning audio/video-phile and I can tell you that this kit is well worth the purchase price. If you're considering this upgrade and you understand my comments about picture quality improvements below, you will not be disappointed! Prior to my installation of the Evolution Kit, I was always somewhat disappointed with the picture quality of my UHD Samsung when displaying anything with picture quality inferior to a Blu-ray disc. After connecting the Evolution Kit, not only is picture processing improved, so is contrast and color. The improved picture is even noticeable when watching UHD Blu-ray discs with what seems like a greater color depth and increased contrast with much better black levels. (Please note, while improved, contrast levels still appear to be short of the current crop of HDR TVs). A noticeable plus with all sources is that the backlighting algorithm is much improved as there is less bleed and blooming on darker scenes. To get the best picture quality, I would recommend defeating most of enhanced and advanced picture features and make sure that you turn off the Eco settings! Look on forums and blogs and use the recommended screen settings as a starting point and customize for your tastes from there.
To summarize - Does it make my 2014 Samsung picture quality competitive with 2017/ 2018 HDR TVs? No, but in my opinion it is a worthwhile, significant and noticeable upgrade to my TV. Before my purchase of the Evolution Kit, I was looking to purchase a TV to replace the 65HU8550 as the picture quality in the newer TVs was noticeably better. To me this inexpensive purchase will definitely extend my enjoyment of my current TV for a few more years.

I purchased this for my 2014 Samsung UN60HU8550 TV and it now gives me HDR, Dolby Digital passthrough, and improved picture quality. It's easy to set up. My only fault with this product so far is the price. at $399 plus tax it is about $150 more than it should be and is almost the price of a new inexpensive 4K TV.

The amount of picture quality improvement was stunning. There was a marked improvement especially with bluray performance. The best movie I test for this is Tomorrowland and id swear it was almost true 4k quality after adding the SEK3500. You have to do a little rewiring and I don't like how I cant turn on my STB with the keyboard anymore like I could previous to installation. Plus I can decode HDR UHD blurays

This kit allows me to get several more years use out of my 4K TV. It makes all the HMDI ports 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 Compliant, as well as acting HDR to my TV and upgrading the software to Tzien. My picture quality looks better. Just remember to follow the instructions exactly.

This kit worked exactly as advertised. Instructions and setup were simple and easy to follow. I have had no problems so far. The picture does seem to be a little sharper with this model. The menus are a little different and take getting used to. I did have to reload most of my apps, even though I followed the backup process. Most apps did not transfer. I do miss the old remote with the track pad. Not a huge fan of the new remote with the pointer. Other than that, everything works great.

Awsome. I was already in love with my 60" UHD TV, but after the upgrade with the One Connect box... wow! It turned my 2014 quad core processor into a 2015 octa-core. Super fast for streaming & Web surfing.
