Something is definitely not right. I own the same sound bar and volume control goes well above 6. I believe the sub woofer 'gain' has a +/-6 range. Could you possible be controlling the subwoofer and thinking its the volume? On the remote, there at two small tab controls side by side. Of those two tab-controls, the one on the right-side controls the subwoofer "volume", while overall volume is controlled by the left-most of the two tabs. If thats not the issue, check your TVs (or console/cable-box) output. Depending on make/model, you may have to select a specific output source (ie. Optical) from whatever you are using to push signal to the sound bar. Finally, to test the bar itself independent of the optical cable, you can connect it to a Bluetooth smartphone, play some music, and try and control audio directly from the buttons on the soundbar itself. If none of those options work, might be worth taking it back for a replacement. Good-luck!
