• We've had no problems using older card readers to transfer and erase, but have not tried in a camera purchased before 2015.

• This is an SD Memory card. There are many other types of memory cards that have been manufactured. I am not aware of any inter-compatibility with other types of cards. SD seems to be the most popular format at this time. There is a Micro-SD that uses an adapter to fit a standard SD slot.
