• this is NOT a hard drive. It has no moving parts. It is an Solid State Drive (SSD). thus it will not degenerate as a regular hard drive with moving parts.

• May I rephrase the question? Can this harddrive be used to back up "files" currently on Windows 8, in preparation for upgrading to Windows 10, then used for backing up "files" using the new platform?

• Please allow us to inform you that you would need a cloning program to clone the whole Windows 8 onto the drive. unfortunately, we do not have any program which can clone onto USB drive. These drives are storage device and can hold any data. We do not have any recommendation software, you will need do an online search for the same.
