It should. I'm using a 1 TB SanDisk SSD as my Time Machine storage and it works fine, with one caveat: my internal SSD is only 1TB, and I figure if my MBP bites the dust at least I'll have the last most recent files, but with 4TB I have a feeling you'll be fine.
