Generally speaking if you have a newer (say 5 years old or less),it will work fine. I am typing this review on an older Macbook Pro from 2008. With windows, I believe you should have windows 7 or newer as Vista does not have trim required for newer solid state drives. With a solid state drive you don't defragmentation as there is a thing called trim that is automatic.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The short answer is yes. The long answer is it depends on the size of the current drive installed in the laptop. The SSD has to be the same size. You will probably want to duplicate the current drive using a disk duplication tool (EaseUS Partition Master - Disk duplicator). You will need a USB to SATA cable so you can connect the SSD via a USB port while you duplicate your drive. Duplication can take hours. But when its done you just swap the mechanical drive with the SSD and you're good to go.
