Retailers typically quote the highest price an item ever sold for so as to make any discounts more impressive. It's just salesmanship.

In this case, the brand issued an msrp with the product. They could say it has an MSRP of $2,000,000. For a technical answer, they are usually mass produced by the same chip vendor, and are simply branded with a different sticker before shipping to Crucial/Sandisk/etc. The Sandisk, Crucial P2, and the WD Base nvme have been seen with identical chipsets.
