Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, macbook air uses a different type of ssd memory called NvMe m.2 or something like that. It's a rectangular shaped non enclosed memory. I have a 2017 MBA and it's pretty similar to 2011.

Great year for upgradability (for a mac) as the machines in this time period used standard DD3 Notebook ram (2 slots) and can use standard SATA 2.5" Hard Drives or SSDs. Take off the bottom plate, and the hard drive should be located on the bottom left right area of the machine. Do make sure you either make a backup or have a OSX boot disk or flash drive ready to go to install OSX. Flash drive would probably be best as it will be much quicker and will have the latest verion of OSX ready to go.
