Both USB ports on this device won't connect to an iPhone...just about every model. All expansion for an iPhone goes into the power connector port which is on the X, or the 8 appear to be USB C (which this has), but Apple's IOS doesn't allow external memory except for pictures. You can't add any USB memory and expand the memory of the phone and add movies, etc. like you can on an android (that's usually through SD cards), but they will recognize there is a storage device connected to the power port and read and write to them. Even if you buy Apple's dongle to connect the power port to USB, it only allows pictures to be written and fetched from the USB device. Generally the rule of thumb with iPhones is to get the model with the most memory on board if you want to store movies, or need the space, because except for pictures, you're not going to be able to use any device for extra storage (read/write) with an iPnone. That's one of many reasons I moved to android.

The app, although not needed to use the device, was designed for Android. It works well on my Galaxy S6 edge . It makes organization of files much easier. I don't think that there is an app available from Apple, however I did find a site for iPhone app. I am not sure how it works for the iPhone, although it seems like there are many apps that have been converted from Android for iPhone. SanDisk makes a device like this for the iPhone. Best Buy currently is having a sale on them although they aren't as inexpensive. You can paste "sandisk ixpand flash drive" in the Best Buy site search box and it will show you all the available options for iPhone. There is even one designed to use with an Otterbox case so you don't have to take the phone out of the case to use it. The ixpand devices have a different app to make use easier that is available from Apple. I would say, if money isn't a concern and you want to keep things simple with one piece of equipment to carry with you, go with the ixpand device. It was designed with Apple products in mind. If you are frugal and tech savvy you could go with the Ultra Dual USB drive and an adapter. Even at list price of $59.99 you should be able to find an adapter and spend less than the $99.99 sale price of the standard ixpand or the $98.99 sale price of the Otterbox uniVERSE ixpand. If you aren't in a hurry for it, Best Buy runs the Dual USB drives on sale periodically. I bought 2 of the 128 GB at different times on their Deal of the Day. The last one was only $29.99.
