The 4 with the circle is actually a 4 with a capital C around it, this is the class that the memory card is. It also tells you the speed of the card. A class 4 has a speed of 4mb/s. This memory card is good for taking pictures with a regular point and shoot camera. This memory card can be used with a DSLR/ professional camera but is not recommended. I would upgrade if you use this card for family pictures since 4mb/s is really slow. Good Luck
