No, unless you cut a hole to cut thru the stud by the fireplace.

This most likely will not. The reason the holes are lined up vertically is because they are installed between studs in the wall. Unless you are able to go up and over said studs around the fireplace, it won't work.

That depends...there is a hard wire between the two pieces (upper and lower) so there can't be a stud between the two... using normal installation

This unit can only be installed in straight wall cavities.  This can't be fed through two separate wall joists.
