• Hello! A mat is not needed, but certainly helps with stability. Before assembling your Schwinn Crewmaster Rower, you will want to make sure you have a hard, level surface of a minimum 3.5 m x 1.8 m (138” x 69”) in dimension. - SchwinnFitness Team

• The two front legs and the one back leg has rubber bottoms. I have my machine on a carpeted surface and I do not use a mat. It does not move while using the machine. Not sure how it would act on a tiled or smooth surface.

• We have ours on a hardwood floor so we did purchase a mat. I don't know if it would slip around or not, but we feel the mat does help to protect the floor since the equipment itself is pretty heavy.
